KANDEM Leipziger Leuchtenbau-Fabrik

Absolutely rare ceiling lamp from the Bauhaus era with opal glass. The annular support fitting is made of aluminium (original color), reflector plate and bulb socket also made of aluminium.

The lamp was created as a draft in the metalwork studios of the Bauhaus Dessau in 1929. Designed and manufactured as a prototype there by Marianne Brandt and Hin Bredendieck, in close cooperation with the renown luminaire factory KANDEM, Leipzig. Where those lamps were produces until the beginning of World War II.

Originally installed in hallways / stairways and newly build tenements of the proletariat and the lower bureaucracy. The development and production of this Bauhaus Lamp is considered as a milestone in the history of industrial design in terms of the synthesis of art, craft, science and industrial mass production.
